"Confessin' The Blues" rassemble les plus grands Bluesmen de tous les temps et offre un parfait enseignement du genre. Le choix des chansons a été fait par les Rolling Stones en collaboration avec BMG et Universal Music. Dans la mémoire collective, les Rolling Stones ont depuis toujours été fans et adeptes du Blues bien avant le début de leur carrière jusqu'à leur dernier album en date "Blues & Lonesome", qui illustra leurs interprétations de classiques du Blues, dont la plupart apparaissent ici, dans leur version originale. Mick Jagger était un des premiers fans du Blues : "Le premier réel album à succès de Muddy Waters 'Muddy Waters At Newport ' était le premier album que j'ai acheté". En tant que disciple du genre, le Groupe et BMG ont décidé que 10% des recettes provenant de la vente de cet album seraient reversées à la Blues Heaven Foundation de Willie Dixon. "Confessin' The Blues" comporte les titres des plus grands pionniers du Blues tels que Howlin' Wolf, John Lee Hooker, Elmore James, Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry, Big Bill Broonzy et Robert Johnson. Tous ces artistes ont eu un impact certain sur les Rolling Stones, soit, sur les riffs de guitare de Keith ou sur les vocalises et textes de Mick. Comme le dit Ron Wood "C'est ainsi que Mick et Keith se sont approchés pour la première fois dans le train du retour de l'Université. Ils ont découvert avec admiration la collection de disques de l'un et l'autre et ce fut ..."Hey, tu as du Muddy Waters, tu dois être un bon gars,...Allez! Formons un groupe". "Confessin'The Blues" contient les notes de pochettes du journaliste musical Colin Larkin, et un bookpack contenant des art cards amovibles du célèbre illustrateur de Blues Christoph Mueller. La pochette de l'album est une gratification du guitariste des Stones, Ron Wood , qui a ajouté sa touche personnelle au projet en y peignant sa représentation du Bluesman. "Confessin' The Blues" est une véritable pédagogie musicale de la part de ceux qui connaissent le mieux le genre : le plus grand groupe vivant du monde, The Rolling Stones.
